Hopefully like me, you enjoy seeing what topic or issue will be the focus of awareness campaigns each month.

I excitedly learn more each year during Black History Month. I love National Reading Month (like I need an excuse to buy a book). I appreciate Dental Awareness Month (shout out to Dr. Saad. I’m still flossing!)  And I’m all over Car Awareness Month (I will change my oil. I will check my tire treads. I promise!)

But ...

But. It’s sad when we have to declare the entire month of October to bring awareness to a problem. Like the problem of bullying. And unfortunately it is an extremely serious, growing problem.

This issue tears at the fibers of human interaction in our schools and workplaces. It stifles personal growth, destroys confidences and can prevent those affected from reaching their life’s potential. The impact of bullying is devastating to all involved – the victims, the bullies, the bystanders and our communities.

Meemic is dedicated to bringing awareness to this national crisis ... every single day. Through our Together Movement, we hope to not only keep this important topic front and center, but to also drive efforts to prevent bullying while promoting kindness and celebrating diversity.

I personally invite you to work with us to address this problem. I encourage you to visit our website – MeemicFoundation.org/Together – for useful resources, and for local events and activities for your classrooms. And although we should note our calendars to acknowledge National Kindness Day on November 13 and Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17, I plan to celebrate and show kindness to all every day of the year.

Won’t you join me?
