What Does Meemic Stand For?

Did you know that Meemic isn’t just a made up name? It actually started as an acronym, and its roots go all the way back to when we were first founded in 1950 in Detroit, Michigan. Back then, our founders, who were also educators, came together to create a company that would offer high-quality, affordable insurance exclusively to their fellow teachers in Michigan, a tradition that still stands today.

That’s why M.E.E.M.I.C. originally stood for Michigan Educational Employees Mutual Insurance Company.

A lot has changed in nearly 75 years. Today, we serve more than just teachers and offer additional insurance products — including auto, home, boat and umbrella coverage.

So, the company that started out as M.E.E.M.I.C., or the Michigan Educational Employees Mutual Insurance Company, is now simply known as Meemic.

But the one thing that hasn’t changed, and never will, is that Meemic still stands for and stands with our fellow educators in every community we serve.
