Just what you needed - a chip in your automobile's windshield! You know that it will cost you time (to get it replaced) and money. It even makes your vehicle look less appealing. Replacing your windshield can be a major headache. But did you realize that in many cases, your windshield could be repaired, saving you time and money?
Don't make the mistake of thinking that a cracked windshield is no big deal. In fact, a simple crack can easily spread, limiting your field of vision. Also, the strength of the glass is jeopardized, creating a safety hazard for you and your passengers.
If the chip or minor break is less than 1 1/2" in diameter and is not in the driver's line of vision, you may want to consider having the windshield repaired instead of replaced. By choosing to repair the windshield, you'll actually save money, as MEEMIC will waive your deductible. The entire process takes less than 45 minutes and can even be done at your home or workplace!
Keep in mind that there will be cases where the windshield will have to be replaced. This may be due to the location of the break or the damaged area may be too large. In any event, remember that it is important that the windshield be restored to acceptable standards of operation and safety. If this cannot be done by repair, then it should be replaced.
Our MEEMIC auto policyholders will find the glass repair process simple. If you have Comprehensive coverage and you have a glass claim, just follow these steps:
- Call 1-888-623-2155 to report your new glass claim.
- A representative will help you arrange to have your glass repaired or replaced.
- For your convenience, a glass shop can be suggested for you, or feel free to use a glass vendor of your choice. Either way, if your windshield is being repaired, the deductible is still waived. Keep in mind, if your windshield must be replaced, you will be liable for the deductible.
